Today, the MARES consortium joined a dedicated session at CINEA that brought together policy makers, project representatives and stakeholders from across the ocean energy community. The meeting provided a timely update on the European Union’s Research & Innovation policy for ocean energy, with the European Commission sharing its latest views and priorities.

The discussion also placed ocean energy within the broader EU policy framework, highlighting synergies with other initiatives and the ambitions set out in the recently presented Ocean Pact. This initiative underlines the importance of collaboration and collective effort in driving forward a sustainable and competitive blue economy.

Beyond the policy updates, the session offered space for dialogue. An engaging Q&A with policy makers allowed participants to raise concerns and explore solutions, while project presentations – including MARES – showcased ongoing work that is already contributing to Europe’s clean energy transition. Thematic discussions on access to finance and on testing and demonstration requirements provided further opportunities to exchange experiences and identify common needs for the sector.

For MARES, the event was both an opportunity to share progress and to connect our project’s objectives with the evolving European agenda. As the policy landscape continues to take shape, these exchanges help ensure that our work is aligned with EU priorities and that the knowledge generated within the project contributes meaningfully to the development of the ocean energy sector.
